Curt Gruel
Curt started painting in college and continued to paint sporadically through his training and career as a physician. He retired in 2006 to attend seminary, and upon graduating, turned his daughter’s vacated bedroom into a studio and began to paint again. He is mostly self-taught, but recently has benefited from instruction by William C. Hook and Mark Daniel Nelson, both of whom he greatly admires. He generally paints from photographs, sometimes outdoors directly from nature, and sometimes just from impressions he carries away from a subject that sings to him.
